The Regional Industry Sector Employment (RISE Geelong) project is a collaborative program that connects job seekers with industry via training, recruitment, mentoring and support.
RISE was developed as a solution to the current skill shortage in the local construction industry. The building industry in Greater Geelong is booming, with an increased demand for housing that is forecast to continue for the next 10 to 20 years, but there are not enough qualified tradespeople available to do this work.
RISE prepares graduates for a construction industry apprenticeship with trade skills and work experience, and offers personal development and team building skills to develop participants’ confidence and make the most of their strengths so that they can be their best. RISE connects, mentors and supports from start to finish.
RISE is a collaborative regional project led by the City of Greater Geelong together with partners Gforce Employment Services, The Gordon, Master Builders Association Victoria (MBAV), Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA), Newcomb Secondary College, Northern Bay P-12 Secondary College, North Geelong Secondary College, Barwon Child Youth & Family and Hamlan Homes who provide RISE with extensive expertise in training and recruitment, industry knowledge and networks.
RISE supporting organisations are integral to delivering this successful program. We thank Lovely Banks Development Group, Hamlan Homes, Lyons Construction, Dennis Family Homes, Geelong Region Local Learning and Employment Group, Diversitat Reconnect, and many more, for their support.
